Sibelius seems not to have gone down very well in Germany, but the reason is obvious: I admire his concision, lack of sentimentality, feeling for nature and moments of exaltation. Steven…one of the greatest but not the greatest.

Bei Leibowitz entsteht bei mir sofort der Eindruck: DAS sind die Sinfonien von Beethoven. Da dies manchmal ein Schwachpunkt ist: Satzes ist wirklich gelungen. Das verbessert den Klang deutlich. Als bei Reader's Digest eine billige Gesamtaufnahme der Sinfonien Beethovens erschien, nahm kaum jemand Notiz davon. Leibowitz hat sich bei Kolisch in vielen Fragen Rat geholt.
